Child protection

Sunday mornings

Children and young people are welcome at all our services. There is a children's area at the back of St Vigor's Church Fulbourn and St Nicholas' Church Great Wilbraham for the under 5's and special groups for both children and young people are as follows:

Sunday Club at Great Wilbraham
Sunday Club meets on the second Sunday of each month from 9.30 to 10.30 a.m. in the Great Wilbraham Baptist Chapel. We follow a varied programme based on the theme of the main service. Under 5's are also catered for.

Sunday School at Fulbourn
This takes place on the 2nd and 4th Sundays in Fulbourn during the 11 a.m. service, in rooms within St. Vigor’s which have been recently revamped. They are led by our Parish Assistant, Sarah Turner, and a team of volunteers.

There is also a creche available during most services at St Vigor's. This meets in one of the Sunday School rooms where there are plenty of toys and also a speaker so parents don't miss out on the service! Children and parents are welcome to use this space.

Youth Group
After a successful Youth Alpha course the Youth Group have now moved into new rooms in the church which is being "youthified"! The group meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month at St Vigor's, Fulbourn. This term we are continuing to look at some big questions in our lives and faith journeys using a series of DVD sermonettes to help us.

All Age Worship
On the first Sunday of the month -  9:30am at St.Nicholas, Great Wilbraham
11:00am at St.Vigor's, Fulbourn
Join us for all age worship.

Xpression! takes place from 4:30pm to 6:00pm on the 4th Sunday of the month at Great Wilbraham Primary School. Join us for creative workshops, refreshments and some all age worship.

Mid-week activities: Under 5's

Open DoorOpen Door on Thursdays at 10 a.m. in Great Wilbraham Baptist Chapel.
Open Door is a flourishing club for families from Great and Little Wilbraham, Six Mile Bottom, Fulbourn and surrounding villages. The mums and carers enjoy the relaxed space in which to sit back with a cup of coffee whilst Sarah Turner and Peter Mitchell take the strain of entertaining the children and babies! There is a singing time each week including some Christian songs and rhymes. We hold termly Toddler services at St Nicholas' Church Great Wilbraham and a Teddy Bears’ Picnic in the summer.

Windmill Toddler Group on Tuesday's, 9:30am at the Fulbourn Centre.

Mid-week activities in our local schools

Happy Sad Club on Mondays at Great Wilbraham Primary School.
Happy Sad Club offers a safe space for the children from Great Wilbraham Primary School to share what is going on in their lives. This is run with the PSHE Coordinator (Personal Social and Health Education). Topics the children share and in which they support each other include bereavement, illness in the family, divorce, health, bullying and managing anger. Lots of happy things are shared too.

Assemblies and school services
The clergy and members from our churches run regular assemblies and school services at Fulbourn Primary School and Great Wilbraham Primary School. We also work with other churches to run assemblies at Bottisham Village College.

Holiday Clubs and special events
In the summer holiday we work in partnership with the United Reform Church in Fulbourn to run a holiday club for the children across our villages. This year, the holiday club took the theme of 'Jungle Jamboree'.

Various special events are held each term including an alternative to Halloween, a trip to Ely Cathederal for the children's 'Praise Party' and the young people's event 'Rave in the Nave'. We also run craft mornings and special events to celebrate major Christian festivals.

Child Protection
The Churches of St Vigor's, St Nicholas' and St John's are committed to protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults in our congregations. We have a Child Protection Policy in place which is written in accordance with current proceedures and guidelines and is reviewed annually by the PCCs. All those who help with young people or vulnerable people in our Parishes are asked to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check, give two personal referees who will vouch for their character and read and sign our Child Protection Policy (for those working with under 18's).
